50 Minutes of Magic
Good morning, good morning! It’s a good day for a good day. I’ve been at a coffee shop in Falls Church, VA this morning for almost an hour already and I’ve been journaling for most of that time, sipping some (very good) coffee, and I’m about to eat my favorite cookie of all time. (I may be over-exaggerating a little bit lol, but I recognize that’s a double edge sword for me).
Anyways, this morning I wanted to talk about the beauty in journaling and how that’s led to so many lovely, creative moments for me. And today, I’ve since come up with four (!!) new word art pieces. I wanted to talk about each of them, briefly.
The first: restore. I just heard a sermon at my new church this past Sunday about restoration, and how God is in the business of restoring all things. And within that process, we’re to rest in His goodness and find that rest to be - in and of itself - part of our restoration. I love that!
The second: hospitality. Can you see it? Within the word “hospitality” is the word hospital. Why is that? I have to think that at the heart of hospitality is service, and knowing that those we’re serving are in need, to some extent. We may be hospitable to those who are genuinely sick, but aren’t we all (sick) in one way or another? We all are in need, and are sick. Spiritually sick, physically sick, mentally sick, emotionally sick, to some extent. I think the key is that we’re all in need of healing. We’ve all experienced hurt, trauma, ailments, diseases, broken dreams. I really think hospitality and serving others by opening up our homes and our hearts to others is what can kickstart that healing process for us and for others.
The third: “God is kind to give second chances: rekindle.” I’m sure you could read that piece in a variety of ways, and that’s certainly a reason why I love word art, and art more generally. Within the process of second chances, a love or a friendship or a relationship that was once lost is found again and anew. Love is rekindled, friendships are restored, and God really is kind to give us those second chances.
Lastly: “The God man loves us: romance.” Both the third and this last piece are new ways of presenting words artistically. I’m kind of a big fan of them lol. God really loves us, and that changes everything. Don’t believe me? That’s ok! We’re all entitled to our own beliefs and ways of being. And yet, I want to challenge us all (including myself) with this: God' wrote the best love story that’s ever existed. And it’s a romance! He has romanced us into existence. He’s romanced us with Himself. And not only so, but God became a man to continue that romance story: Jesus Christ himself is love made man. Made manifest. And what a celebration that is!
So, today, be encouraged: I never thought a 50 minute journaling session at a coffee shop this morning (while listening to 80s music lol!) could’ve led to such artistic joy and resolution. But that’s something I really love about life and art. Today was 50 minutes of magic, hands down. And honestly, because of that creativity, I now have my hands up in praise. Hallelujah for life and artwork. Definitely a magical thing!
